Revere Franklin Weidner's A System of Dogmatics is one of the most extensive Lutheran theological publications to arise from the United States. Drawing on the tradition of Lutheran orthodoxy as developed in the Post-Reformation era, Weidner covers each topic of theology with Biblical fidelity, historical awareness, and systematic rigor. Throughout these texts, Weidner engages with critical scholarship and various theological developments in the Western church through the beginning of the twentieth century. In response to criticisms, Weidner holds firm to classical Christian orthodoxy, and defends Holy Scripture as the inspired Word of God. As Weidner died before he was able to complete this work, it has never been published as a singular comprehensive set of volumes. This new publication is an attempt to do just that. The first three volumes are revised and updated editions of the original texts written by Weidner. These updates include the use of modern spelling conventions, contemporary style guidelines, and a new typesetting. Some sections which were previously in the form of outlines have been reformatted into full paragraphs for easier reading. The fourth volume in this series attempts to complete the project by supplementing Weidner's texts with selections from his teachers, along with some pieces of his other works that deal with doctrines he was not able to complete his writing on. This first volume covers theological prolegomena, the doctrine of God, and the works of God in creation and providence. Print: $30.00 |
