Revere Franklin Weidner's A System of Dogmatics is one of the most extensive Lutheran theological publications to arise from the United States. Drawing on the tradition of Lutheran orthodoxy as developed in the Post-Reformation era, Weidner covers each topic of theology with Biblical fidelity, historical awareness, and systematic rigor. Throughout these texts, Weidner engages with critical scholarship and various theological developments in the Western church through the beginning of the twentieth century. In response to criticisms, Weidner holds firm to classical Christian orthodoxy, and defends Holy Scripture as the inspired Word of God.

As Weidner died before he was able to complete this work, it has never been published as a singular comprehensive set of volumes. This new publication is an attempt to do just that. The first three volumes are revised and updated editions of the original texts written by Weidner. These updates include the use of modern spelling conventions, contemporary style guidelines, and a new typesetting. Some sections which were previously in the form of outlines have been reformatted into full paragraphs for easier reading. The fourth volume in this series attempts to complete the project by supplementing Weidner's texts with selections from his teachers, along with some pieces of his other works that deal with doctrines he was not able to complete his writing on.

This first volume covers theological prolegomena, the doctrine of God, and the works of God in creation and providence.

This volume is part of Weidner's eight volume dogmatics series. In this text, he takes up the topic of Christology. With a rigorous Biblical, theological, and historical evaluation, Weidner elucidates the nature of Jesus' person and work. This volume covers: the two natures in Christ, Christological debates in history, the communication of attributes from the divine to human nature in Christ, Christ's humiliation and exaltation, along with many other topics. As always, Weidner's work is drawn largely from the seventeenth-century Lutheran orthodox writers, though he applies such ideas within the context of theological trends current to his day.

George Henry Gerberding called Weidner's Studies in the Book his most original contribution to theology. These volumes, covering the entirety of the New Testament and parts of the Old, are based on lectures given by Weidner to students at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. In them, he gives outlines of Scriptural books, detailing their primary emphasis and theological themes. He provides details about the authorship and dating of each book.

This volume covers the book of Genesis. In it, Weidner develops his biblical theology as drawn from figures like Karl Keil, Franz Delitzsch, and Gustav Oehler, as he exposits major themes from the first book of the Bible. He criticizes the historical critical school throughout the text, and argues that Genesis was written by divine inspiration, and that its themes find their end in Christ.

Biblical Theology of the Old Testament (Complete Works of Revere Franklin Weidner)

While Biblical Theology is often thought of as a discipline engaged in primarily by Reformed scholars, it was developed as a distinct field of study from Dogmatic Theology by Lutheran authors in Germany beginning in the mid-nineteenth century. This volume is among the first books on the subject published in English, as Weidner summarizes the thoughts of various German Lutherans, while offering several of his own insights.

Biblical Theology discusses the progress of God's revelation throughout the Biblical narrative. Throughout, Weidner argues against critics who view the Bible as the product of natural religious development, rather than an inspired text. This first volume covers the entirety of the Old Testament.

This volume in Weidner's unfinished Christian Dogmatics series expounds upon the doctrine of the Holy Spirit. This book is not, however, a Pneumatology in the traditional sense; rather than simply explaining the person of the Holy Spirit, Weidner emphasizes His work in the individual believer. This book is essentially a treatment of the traditional Lutheran ordo salutis. Weidner discusses important topics such as: the call, justification, sanctification, and the mystical union. Throughout the text he utilizes classic Lutheran writers, along with nineteenth century European theologians. He contrasts the Lutheran ordo salutis with that of the Reformed church.
